determined based on years of nursing experience.About The UnitThe
Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is a 34-bed critical care unit
within Cincinnati Children's Heart Institute. The unit provides
specialized care for critically ill newborns, children,
adolescents, and adults with congenital or acquired heart disease.
Our team cares for patients who have undergone cardiothoracic
surgery, heart or lung transplants, and those requiring advanced
therapies such as ECMO and ventricular assist devices (VADs).
Additional patient populations include those recovering from
cardiac catheterizations and those with complex medical cardiac
issues like pulmonary hypertension.We are currently seeking a
Registered Nurse with a minimum of two years of nursing experience

You'll Do As a CICU Nurse
- Deliver high-quality, compassionate, relationship-based care to
critically ill cardiac patients.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to provide
individualized care.
- Serve as a key resource to families, offering education and
emotional support.
- Manage complex care situations involving ECMO, VAD, transplant
recovery, and other high-acuity cardiac cases.
- Maintain and build critical care competencies in a

- Current RN license in the State of Ohio
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required (critical
care or cardiac preferred)
- BLS certification required; ACLS and PALS preferred or
willingness to obtain

- Plan of Care - Provide approved care of assigned patients in a
Team Nursing environment and assist in implementation of
interventions under supervision of RN. Complete nursing orientation
and competencies. Supervise and assist patients with activities of
daily living. Supervise developmentally appropriate activities.
Offers assistance to co-workers after completion of own duties. Use
crisis control techniques and assist in de-escalation of patients
and visitors. Assist with patient transport as requested.
- Communication - Demonstrates the Cincinnati Children's CARES
behaviors in all interactions with patients, families, visitors and
co-workers by actively participating as a frontline example of
extraordinary customer service and satisfaction. Reports present
status or changes in patient condition on an ongoing basis and in
change of shift summary. Completes timely documentation of
information in the patient medical record. Seek information and
guidance when needed. Discusses concerns of work situation with
Director or designee. Mentors and coaches other PCAs with effective
communication.
- Environment - Ensures that within the division, all areas are
organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient
environment for patients, families, visitors, and employees. Ensure

families. Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures.
Adhere to safety procedures appropriate to children's ages and
development level.
- Administrative Support - Responds to communication
system/patient alarms and executes with a sense of urgency. Answer
the telephone in accordance with CCHMC telephone etiquette.
Assemble charts, order patient supplies, and stock clerical
supplies. May assist in the orientation and training of new
employees. Reviews new hire skills and competency checklist prior
to manager review.
- Monitor Observation - May perform monitor observation
responsibilities. Continuously observes and accurately recognizes
actionable conditions. Reliably detects changes from patient
baseline and observational changes of actual patient and reports
the changes to caregiver. Utilizes algorithm in response to monitor
interpretation. Document change and action taken per algorithm
guidelines.Job Qualifications
- Masters, Bachelors or Associates Degree in Nursing through the
completion of a ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA accredited nursing program.
Associates degree in Nursing candidates must complete Bachelors
degree in Nursing within 5 years of date of entry into RN
position.
- Offered and accepted a RN position at CCHMC with an expectation
to take and successfully pass Ohio State Board of Nursing
Registered Nursing Licensure Examination within 90 days of entry
