An opportunity is available for a Registered Nurse skilled in stepdown care to contribute to a dynamic healthcare team in Bloomington, IN. This contract position offers the chance to provide critical support in a mixed-acuity unit that encompasses Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical-Surgical (MedSurg) patient care responsibilities. Qualifications and Desired Experience: - Minimum of 18 months RN experience preferred; first-time stepdown nurses are encouraged to apply - Current ACLS and BCLS certifications required; NIH certification is a plus - Competent in cardiac care including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, post-cardiac surgery care, arterial line and central line management, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips - Experience with post-cardiac surgery interventions such as TAVI/TAVR, intra-aortic balloon pump, ventricular assist devices preferred - Ability to care for ventilated patients and manage ventilators is advantageous - Previous charge nurse experience preferred - Willingness to float across PCU and MedSurg units as needed within scope of practice - Must be licensed or eligible for Indiana, compact, or temporary RN licensure prior to starting - Ability to work 2 out of 3 major holidays and every other weekend required Responsibilities: - Deliver compassionate and proficient nursing care across a mixed-acuity 4E PCU/MedSurg unit, catering to cardiovascular surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiology, oncology, and endocrine patients - Maintain patient safety and comfort during complex clinical procedures including cardiac surgery recovery, blood product administration, and critical care equipment management - Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes - Comply with unit protocols involving telemetry monitoring and use of specialized equipment in private patient rooms with overhead lifts - Manage patient assignments with ratios of approximately 1:5 - Participate in scheduling discussions, with shift options including a night schedule of three 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM) Location:Bloomington, Indiana is a vibrant city known for its educational institutions, cultural diversity, and welcoming community.
