Job Description Job Title: Dietary Cook Department: Dietary / Nutrition Services Reports To: Dietary Manager / Food Service Director Job Summary The Dietary Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, appetizing meals for residents in a long-term care facility while following physician-ordered diets, food safety regulations, and facility policies. This role supports resident health, comfort, and quality of life through consistent, high-quality food service. Key Responsibilities Prepare and cook meals according to standardized recipes, menus, and resident diet orders (e.g., therapeutic, texture-modified, and special diets) Ensure meals are prepared and served on schedule and at proper temperatures Follow food safety and sanitation standards, including proper food handling, storage, and cleaning procedures Assist with meal service as needed, including plating, portion control, and special requests Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including equipment and work areas Monitor food supplies and assist with inventory and restocking Work collaboratively with dietary staff, nursing, and management to meet resident needs Follow infection control, safety, and emergency procedures Comply with state, federal, and facility regulations related to food service in long-term care Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (preferred) Previous cooking experience, preferably in healthcare, long-term care, or institutional food service Knowledge of modified diets (mechanical soft, pureed, diabetic, low-sodium, etc.) Ability to read and follow recipes and diet cards accurately Skills & Abilities Strong attention to detail and consistency Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Effective time management and teamwork skills Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift kitchen supplies as needed Compassion and respect for elderly residents Working Conditions Kitchen and food service environment Exposure to heat, steam, and food service equipment Weekend, holiday, and shift work may be required Cardinal Care Strategies is an EEO Employer - M/F/Disability/Protected Veteran Status
